Good article. To add a little history to it, this whole project was initiated by Sun and now at hands of OpenJDK (The JDK platform which most of us use in Linux Boxes) to add support for the JVM to run Dynamic Programming Languages (DPLs). The project’s name was “Da Vinci Machine Project” and their core point was to develop language engines so that DPLs could coexist in JVM environment with Java. The idea was to increase the scope and dynamics of the JVM but it seems that the community interest for this project is kind of low.
